This was a truly fantastic year for Sony’s Playstation 3. They opened in January with the wonderful LittleBigPlanet 2, burst into the fourth quarter with Resistance 3 and all of its Chimeran glory, and finished the race with the masterpiece that was Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. There are a handful of other exclusives that dazzled the gaming world, but if you haven’t guessed the winner of this category by now, I really don’t think you’ve been paying attention. Uncharted 3 did the impossible – satisfying fans who were asking for an improvement on a title that many see as gaming perfection. Is it a huge leap forward? No, and I really don’t think there’s such a thing in our current console cycle. What Naughty Dog did was take everything that made Among Thieves so damn wonderful, polish the hell out of it, and stick it into a much more personal and cerebral tale. Nathan Drake has become the face of the Playstation 3, and his most recent adventure hits every single note on the scale. You could call it “the year of the PS3” or something crazy like that – whatever makes you happy. All that matters is that there are plenty of Sony products to enjoy this holiday season, with Drake and the gang sitting happily on the top of the pile.
